In the unlikely event that your dedicated connection to the Internet or your Point-To-Point circuit goes down, the piece of mind a
backup connection for your leased line provides is worth consideration. While carrier based Point-To-Point and Frame Relay networks
are very robust and heavily redundant, certain events can still affect them adversely, in turn affecting your uptime and productivity.
North Atlantic Networks's backup options eliminate downtime. North Atlantic Networks is a Cisco Premier Certified Partner.
All business class customers with high-speed connections to the Internet should consider an alternate connection to the Internet.
Depending on your baseline needs while operating on this backup connection, you may choose from fractional Frame Relay or Point-To-Point
all the way through T3, carrier class metro Ethernet or OC level circuits. If you make use of Frame Relay technology as your primary
circuit type, a backup PVC can provide alternate routing to the Internet. While the backup connection is operating you may limit the
type of traffic to incoming e-mail only, for example, to preserve bandwidth while your primary line is repaired. Not all functionality
may be available - ask an Account Executive for more information.
Backup via High-Speed Line - Speeds to OC
For many business class customers ISDN speeds of 128k simply won't do. In many instances, the amount of utilization on the 128k link
creates a bottleneck resulting in the perception that the ISDN link isn't functioning at all. Additionally, ISDN backup kicks in under
very specific line outages or may not kick in at all, thus your "backup" ends up not being one. If your business requires Internet
access and you simply "can't be down", installing a separate high-speed line for your backup connection is the best solution. Often,
a different technology is used to provide the redundancy. For example, if the primary link is Point-To-Point, Frame Relay is used as
the backup. If your business has specific application and QoS demands, a Point-To-Point link can also be installed for backup. North Atlantic Networks provides fractional speeds on both circuit types providing you the scaleability and price points your business
requires. Depending on circuit type, upgrading backup bandwidth can take as little as three days!
Backup via Redundant PVC - Speeds to T3
If your connection to the Internet uses Frame Relay, you may be eligible for a secondary PVC connection using one of North Atlantic Networks's redundant Frame Relay feeds. In the event a Frame Relay link is lost at the POP location, your traffic would simply route
via a different link inside the Frame Relay cloud. Requires no specialized hardware. Available in selected areas. Ask your Account
Executive for details.
Backup via High Speed Wireless - Speeds to Gigabyte
High Speed Wireless backups offer enterprise customers alternate carrier solutions with speeds to gigabyte. As a backup to an OC level
circuit, High Speed Wireless removes all of the "blame game" and delivers secure, high bandwidth backup to ensure your bsuiness stays
up and running. North Atlantic Networks High Speed Wireless backup utilizes the same security features as financial institutions and
goverment agencies thus ensuring your data gets to its final destination. Pre-qualification for High Speed Wireless is required so
contact your Account Executive for more details.
Note that North Atlantic Networks does NOT offer an analog or ISDN backup option.
